UDJ to call general assembly in thirty days

After collecting signatures needed to form the national party, the former Coalition for Unity and Democracy Party majority who is forming a new party, Unity for Democracy and Justice (UDJ), is to call a general assembly to endorse the party program and regulations.

According to Birtukan Medeksa, Vice Chair of the former CUDP, the general assembly, expected to take place in one month’s time, will elect party leaders as per the new party structures. The new party structure is fundamentally the same according to Mohammed Ali (MP), who is coordinating the committee setup to prepare the party’s program, regulations and other documents.

Both Justice Birtukan and MP Mohammed admit that the party election would be the last official breakup of the former CUDP Chairman Hailu Shaul with UDJ. They also underline that there is still a time and chance for Hailu to join the new association.

Mohammed explains to Capital that the political programme of UDJ has benchmarked best practices a of number of countries like South Africa, England, and U.SA. The committee which includes United Nation’s former prosecutor, Dr. Yakob Hailemariam, presented the programmes for discussion on Saturday, April 19, 2008. Members of the former CUDP supreme council, executive committee and those elected in the House of Peoples’ Representatives and Addis Ababa City Council are expected to have their say on the programmes. The final endorsement will be the general assembly’s.

Mohammed also explains that during the general assembly, the election of leaders will be entirely based on the votes unlike the previous one by the former CUDP, which had already allocated seats for members from the four parties; the United Ethiopian Democratic Party-MEDHIN, the All Ethiopian Unity Party, Rainbow Ethiopia Movement for Democracy and Social Justice and the Ethiopian Democratic League, which were forming the Coalition until United Ethiopian Democratic Party- MEDHIN withdraw and its then Secretary Lidetu Ayalew (MP) decided not put a stamp on the merger document.

“ Even if Electoral Board doesn’t approve it, we now consider ourselves as one party members, “ states Mohammed, “ there is no seat allocated or reserved for any group.” The Committee which presented its draft party programme includes Dr. Shimeles Tekelsadik, Kefele Tigneh, Fetene Teshome, Zeleke Alemu, Dibaba Amenisisa and others.

According to Capital’s source, UDJ won’t find it difficult to have a satisfactory endorsement on the programs and it is the future election which is expected to cause tough debate. According to the source, it was due to the first election of the former CUDP, the departure of Lidetu came true, and it can still challenge the new union as some groups would feel left out if don’t feel adequately represented in the leadership. Few weeks back there were reports that UDJ had secretly elected Birtukan to Chair and Temesgen Zewdie (MP), a Whip of the largest parliamentarians group, for Vice Chair. The election was strongly denied by UDJ and there were no leadership changes witnessed.

    Bravo UDJ,

Yes, you should never see the dying feudal, AleQa Hailu Shaelw. He has turned out to be real reactionary and any alliance with his feudal lord would cost you much more.

Just keep your track. We all are with you.

Cliques of Shawel and Weyane will be unhappy with your efforts. Egnore them. Only focus on your destination, freedom, justice and unity in Ethiopia!!!

    Hi;
I think Hailu Shawel is strong and can lead this nation until honest non-talkative but sincere ethiopians emerge to follow him.I was fascinated by his posture for the first time i saw him at sidist killo conference hall in the 2005 campaign along with lidetu and dr. birhanu(now seems retiring-cause we do not hear from him here) who at that time just retuned from debrezeit. So i donot think hailu needs to retire.
I was a dedicated supporter of dr. birhanu much more than that of like to the bbs.We all now ashamed of them .Alot of documented cases
    -actions,
    -sayings
-and motives of these once inspirational leaders now seem to go dead wrong.
they used the hailu political infrastractures as a ladder to clinge to polularity in few months.

For the sake of the peoples struggle we donot try to paint black on their name as what Acting president of the original kinijit Ato abayneh berhanu had said here.

I also quote him-I wish them every success.

May Allah Guides them all to the straight path.
    Ammeen.

Why did the Amara dominated governments failed to bring meaningful government and democracy to ethiopia for ther last 100 years ?
The only thing Amaras gave to Ethiopia is mass starvation, war, lazyness, tribalism, mass genocide, poverity.

It really saddens me to read some of the crap written as comments in response to the soon to be held story of the UDJ general assembly. This task of calling the general assembly enshouldered by a few responsible former Kinigit party members who had already taken more than their share of suffering by being thrown into and locked in woyane’s Kaliti prison is so lofty and venerable.

These people deserve respect and appreciation in the light of the vicious and pernicious threats and intimidations they are facing daily from the monstrous thugs of the Woynane. So why is that some of us who don’t have a fraction of their courage subjecting them to such vitriolic insults which by no means they deserve but rather must be cheered and admired? It is of course in the evil nature of Woyane and its running dogs to smear the names of our heroes and it is not something unexpected. Woyane has reached the end of its rope as far as governance is concerned. See the daily power outages in the country which has likened it to Iraq, a country engulfed in a ceaseless war in the last six years. Isn’t Woyane telling us that our country is stable except for the small tush-tush war in Somalia which Meles of his unchallenged volition immersed our country into and is taking the lives of our productive youth by the thousands.

For all these and more, the one and only solution for Woyane is to step down and hand over power to the people’s choice, UDJ.

God bless Ethiopia and damn Woyane.
