Group Says Ethiopia ‘oppressive’ for journalists
June 16th, 2008 | EthioPolitics.com |
The International Press Institute on Monday voted “unanimously” to keep Ethiopia, Nepal, Russia, Sri Lanka, Venezuela and Zimbabwe on its “watch list” of countries where press freedom has significantly deteriorated, said a statement.
Ethiopia remained on the list despite the release of 15 journalists in 2007. Journalists there were still feeling the after-effects of a 2005 crackdown, said the IPI.
In neighboring Eritrea, the fate of two journalists with the state broadcaster who were arrested while trying to enter Somalia were still unknown, added the media group.
Established in 1950, the Vienna-based IPI is the oldest global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists from 128 countries around the world.
Its main goal is to defend rights of journalists and freedom of press throughout the world.

IPI interfering in countries domestic political affairs through in the name of jurnalism. Fact is, most of those who were holding jurnalist licence were international spies, representing hidden agenda hidden interest and working as spying agent to their respected countries, working in the shadow of jurnalism.
Some of those hidden agents/jurnalists working underground to overthrough elected governments.

Am from Ethiopia good job IPI those who said you are interfering in domestic political affairs are a part of the dictator government of Ethiopia. The same people supported dictators while they killed innocent Ethiopians.

Zalke,
You are on the money. But Not all jurnalists are spies or political bias propagandist representatives(hidden politicians) as you put it. But in the mean time there are so many of these so called “jurnalists” have hidden agenda than being simply a professional jurnalist. I.e, you can take “Ethiomedia” as an example of inflated politically motivated hallow propagandist jurnalism, these were the kind of jurnalists and jurnalism we can not afford to treat them and trust them as jurnalists because they are hiding behind jurnalism and call themselves as jurnalists.

E.E,
You sound dumb. Wake up!
Ethiopia is not America or canada, but East African ciountry with its own history, politics, economics and different progressive stage of politics and social consciousness. Thus to compare and look Ethiopias politics by western standard is total self misguiding and self deafeating. Only unelitened shortsighted measures Ethiopias politics by western standard. becaue there is 200 years of gap of democracy between Ethiopia and America.

The WEST now using the “Jurnalists” and “Human right” organizations to target and destroy smart and strong African leaders, and to control Africas politics and Africans resources(Economics).

“TANKS,GUNS AND BULLETS TO AFRICA….”
The WEST is happy to arm and send Tanks,Guns and Bullets to arm Africans to kill each other in the stealth of politics. But the WESt never send no single book, engineering assistance, scientific assistance, technological assitance, agricultural assistance or economic marshal plan to up lift Africans. Fact is the WEST never had and never will have good heart when it comes to Africa.
For the above facts History speak for it self.

We must learn from Chines, the chines do not have no western style Democracy nor multi political party system or internationally recognizable election result, but the chines who is single political party country does much better than the west when it comes to conducting its business and managing its 1.4 billions population (1/5 of the world population).
How that possible a country who is operating with single political party does so well and tranforming the China republic from state owned midum sized subindustries to capitalist form of indutrialist country within 20 years period. The answer is simple, the country is managing its own affairs without meddling of the foreigners in their domestic political and social affairs. because, the chines politicians and people knows what is important to their people in a long and a short term strategy, thus when it comes to domestic affairs of the chines republic that ignoring the west is not only vital but a must well thought political strategy to build the countries self confidence and home grown solution, otherwise to allow the west to pentrate into chinas domestic affairs will degrade China, and china will automatiocally become another Africa, middle East or south America.

While journalists used as spies, and journalism also degraded to hoodwink style propaganda machine to serve foreign hidden motives. Some of these countries now officially setting annual budgets and recruting hirring foreign journalists to work as an agent to blackmail and discredite government its elected officials.
