Addis Ababa - Ethiopian Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi is to attend the G8 Summit to be held in Rome, Italy representing the African continent.

Meles will be attending the G8 summit as per the invitation made by his Italian counterpart, Silvio Berlusconi. During the course of the summit, Meles is expected to voice the cause of Africa, especially development assistance the African countries expect from the G8 member states in order to withstand the adverse effects of the current global economic downturn.

A special envoy of the Italian Prime Minister, Professor Luche Ricardo presented the special invitation to Meles on Tuesday in Addis Ababa.

It is to be recalled that Meles attended the summit of G20 leaders in London a few months back where he voiced African concern at the summit.
